Joburg Ballet is pleased to announce that following changes to Covid-19 regulations concerning the size of indoor gatherings, an additional 200 seats are now on sale for each of the seven performances of The Nutcracker being presented by Joburg Ballet at the Joburg Theatre from 8 to 17 October...
The previous regulations allowed an audience of only 50 per performance, all of which were sold out within days of the booking opening.
Joburg Ballet brings to sparkling life one of the most popular and beloved classical ballets in the world. The company’s enchanting new production of The Nutcracker from 8 to 17 October at the Joburg Theatre showcases exquisite dancing, sumptuous sets by designer Wilhelm Disbergen and, of course, Tchaikovsky’s captivating music, providing an unforgettable treat for children and adults alike.
Produced and choreographed by artistic director Iain MacDonald, assisted by ballet mistress Lauren Slade, with additional choreography by Nicole Ferreira-Dill, Bruno Miranda and Thabang Mabaso and with Shannon Glover taking principal rehearsals, The Nutcracker will transport audiences to a fairy tale world as Clara and the Nutcracker Prince journey to the Kingdom of the Sweets, dance through snowflakes and meet the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Artistic Director Iain MacDonald commented: “The Nutcracker is a ballet traditionally associated with Christmas, but I believe it is also a ballet that fits perfectly into any season so what better way to create the right mood for the coming Christmas holidays than by presenting The Nutcracker in spring. I am delighted that this staging will also draw on the choreographic talents of company dancers who have been invited to choreograph sections of the production.”
