THE LIVING ROOM

But that’s exactly what The Living Room is – it’s also one of Joburg’s most popular spots to watch the sunset while enjoying sundowners with friends. Great drinks include the ever-popular Minty Magic, French bubbly, a range of Fernskloof wines, plus spirits and craft beers. There’s also a menu filled with tempting delights. The place is packed on Sunday afternoons or whenever there’s live music.
SAN DECK
Sandtonistas love this spot, and not only for the cocktail named after them. The San Deck is the go-to spot for great views of the city and the couch seating makes it so comfy you’ll never want to leave. The cocktails and wine list is extensive, and includes specially designed options, the nibbles are delicious and the setting is literally the best in Sandton. Need we say more?
SIR JAMES VAN DER MERWE
Located at Katy’s Palace Bar in Kramerville, one of the city’s most popular event venues, this eclectic bar offers breathtaking panoramas of Joburg’s north-west. This is a gentleman’s bar and a nostalgic experience, a reminder of a bygone era. Your bubbly is served in an ice bowl, the food is a selection of bite-sized delights, there’s billiards just like in the old days and an eclectic range of cocktails. And did we mention the view?
THE UNION BAR
Ok, this time it’s not on the roof, but The Union Bar is here today and gone tomorrow, so don’t miss out on this popular pop-up, whether it’s on a rooftop or not. It’s currently located at 144 Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkwood, right next to Park Corner. Moving it around keeps everybody on their toes, the bar staff included, but wherever they land, one thing is certain: the cocktails are really good and the entertainment is on point. This is one instance when we’ll forget about the views.
ELEVATE
Located on the 16th floor of the Reef Hotel in Marshalltown on the rooftop, this hidden treasure in the inner city not only offers gobsmacking city views, but its sophisticated snack platters, mouth-watering high teas and great selection of drinks come a close second. There’s live entertainment, too. Well worth adding to your list. The best cocktail on the list is the Scorpio, so relentless that you never remember what it is made of.

The Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank welcomes Upstairs at MESH, a four-month pop up Champagne bar and venue, with beautiful views of JHB (that is not a parking lot.) In time for summer in Jozi, this hot spot invites you to sip on a glass of bubbles whilst enjoying delicious gourmet street food from around the world. Doors open from Wednesday to Friday from 6pm, and Saturdays from 2pm until late. Available as a venue to host private or corporate events, Upstairs at MESH is the ultimate contemporary space to complement the Joburg lifestyle.
