Multi-talented performing artist Cara Frew, known for her dynamic presence and versatile skills, has reached a significant milestone in her career by signing with Moonyeenn Lee Agency (MLA), South Africa’s leading acting agency. A Grammy Recording Academy member and former Sony Music Entertainment artist, Cara has performed at prestigious events such as the Coachella Music Festival and has been honoured with a South African Music Award (SAMA). With over 20 years of experience in the creative industry, this new partnership with MLA marks an exciting chapter in Cara’s artistic journey.
MLA has a reputation for casting in acclaimed productions such as Blood Diamond, Black Panther, the Oscar-winning Tsotsi, and the Oscar-nominated Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Cara’s collaboration with MLA represents her commitment to excellence and her desire to continue to expand as a performing artist in the creative world of music, film and acting.
A Journey of Multidimensional Creativity
Cara Frew is a testament to the power of pursuing multiple creative interests with passion and self-belief. As a woman with diverse talents, she challenges the notion that one must be confined to a single path. Her journey as a successful singer/songwriter, an accomplished equestrian and dedicated actress showcases the strength and appeal of being multidimensional in today’s creative landscape.
“Acting has always been a part of my journey,” Cara shares. “From taking acting classes throughout junior and high school to performing as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at 11 years old, I have always had a passion for the craft. While living in Los Angeles and signed to Sony Music Entertainment as a singer/songwriter, I continued to pursue acting by studying at prestigious institutions such as the Howard Fine Acting Studio”.
Cara’s journey has been one of continuous exploration and dedication. After spending years in California, she continued honing her craft, training with David Rotenberg at the Professional Actors Lab. Her commitment remains strong as she participates in weekly online scene studies at the Ivanna Chubbuck Studio in LA. This dedication is evident in her current work—she’s writing two film scripts and a series. In July, Cara took a significant step by shooting her first short film, which she wrote and co-produced, further solidifying her passion and commitment to the industry.
A Holistic Approach to Art
Cara Frew’s artistic journey is holistic, with each facet of her life enriching the others. Her skills as a singer/songwriter and performer enhance her confidence as an actress, while her experience as an elite athlete in the equestrian sport has instilled in her a profound work ethic, resilience, and discipline—qualities that parallel the emotional intelligence needed in both music and acting. Her Master’s in Science Health Psychology Degree reflects her pursuit of deeper human understanding, providing valuable insights into human behaviour and emotions, which she brings to her characters with depth and nuance.
“Film, performance, and psychology all require similar skills and talent,” Cara explains. “Each discipline informs and enhances the others, enabling continuous growth and pushing the boundaries of my creativity. This interconnectedness defines my journey as an artist, adding depth to my skill set as an actress, and allowing me to express myself fully and authentically in all my pursuits.”
Why Now? Focus After Adversity
Cara’s decision to hone in on her acting now was influenced by a life-changing event. “In November, I broke both wrists in a horse riding accident, which meant I couldn’t compete for the next year. With all my music prepped for the year ahead, I suddenly found myself at a standstill. Acting has always been a passion of mine, and this unexpected turn of events provided me the space and opportunity to focus on my acting skill set without distraction,” Cara reflects.
Her signing with MLA is the culmination of years of dedication and the perfect opportunity to channel her creative energy into her passion as a performing artist. Cara’s collaboration with MLA is a testament to her belief in herself and her desire to work with the best in the industry.
Looking Ahead: A Bright Future in Film
Cara Frew is excited about the roles and opportunities that lie ahead. “I’m looking forward to taking on roles that offer depth and complexity, regardless of genre. I seek stories worth telling—ones that resonate with audiences and leave a lasting impact.”
As Cara expands her expertise and reach as a performing artist, she remains committed to her music, with three new songs set to be released in the coming months. Her journey as a creative is far from over, and her passion for film, performance, and psychology continues to drive her toward excellence.
