Local African Dark Rum wins big at Old Mutual Trophy Spirit Awards...
Elephantom African Dark Rum, from the Kinship Spirits portfolio of small-batch craft spirits claims ‘Best Rum in Show’ accolade at the internationally recognised 2021 Old Mutual Trophy Spirits Awards.
A drink is more than just some liquid in a bottle or glass. A drink is a discourse with the drinker, and a conversation with the crafter, one that will linger on the lips long after the taste dissipates. A drink is a dialogue that draws you in to an immersive experience of enjoyment and sharing.
A mystical legend inspires Kinship’s signature rum, Elephantom. Folklore tells of a bull elephant from the exotic Knysna Forest, who would magically appear and disappear to those seeking the last remaining elephants, after hunting decimated this once flourishing herd of forest elephants.
Was it real or just a phantom of the imagination? Elephantom Rum is created in honour of that lone bull elephant – a magnificent creature that stokes curiosity and fascination.
Dark and mysterious, the rum is triple distilled from pure fermented cane molasses in a copper potstill and aged in bourbon casks for a rich, rounded fruity flavour that’s full of complexity. The caramel notes fade to reveal cooked peaches, light spices, vanilla, and hints of apple.
The mystery is revealed
This fine adventurous rum is confidently adding to the ever-growing and increasingly popular craft rum category in South Africa, and stands proudly amongst this herd of fine beverages.
Enjoy this mystical liquid in a Piña Colada, Caipirinha or a Rum & Raspberry soda, and you may just experience the spirit of this fleeting bull elephant.
